Cross reference w/ Marlin
« on: September 16, 2012, 05:26:04 PM »
Heard elsewhere that Marlin was going down. They are parent to H&R. Is this just more election year crap and rehashing, or has anyone here heard something new? Any hint from Brian & co? Or just another chicken little? I sure hope it is just a rerun.

I haven't heard nor have I seen anything about that. They shut down NEF pretty quick and then moved Marlin and H&R  which I'm sure you guys know, honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if they did. It would be ashamed IMO if they did !

There has been a bunch of tin foil hat conspiracy stuff floating around for a while.  Gun sales are at the highest point in our history, it's possible management is incompetent enough to bankrupt a brand as old as Marlin during record industry sales, but I don't think it'll happen.

The big issue right now is Remington threatening to leave New York if they pass the microstamping bill that is being proposed.  For H&R and Marlin fans this possibly leads to a perfect storm of bad news.  If the president loses reelection the firearms industry sales are going to fall dramatically.  Remington would face a tough decision if the president loses and NY passes the microstamping law.  Moving production during an industry downturn is tricky at best.  I don't see Marlin or H&R going away, but I can see much leaner operations and less products offered.

I sure hope they hang in there, everyone seems mad at Obama but he has sold more firearms than anybody since WWII. ;) I hate the loss of the product lines, I hope to run across a TDC 20 ga somewhere in time at least, and one of those little CL Marlins would be nice. I guess we will see. There are a bunch of little upstart companies out there, but they all seem to be making some AR version, not a Low Wall Winchester clone :'(
