« on: September 10, 2012, 10:27:43 AM »
I picked up my new sbr2 in 30-06 today. They seem toto be versatile guns. I got it synthetic and put a nikon 3-9x50 on it. Any suggestions on rounds or any other info would be greatly appreciated

Welcome dockhouse----always good to have a new member and potential Handi-holic aboard. If you dont yet know what a handi-holic is, just spend some time reading on this forum----you'll see what I mean. If someone hasnt already steered you there, check at he top of the page for the FAQ's and handi basics 101. "bout everything you need to know is there, and if not, just ask your question on the forum---there are a bunch of very knowledgeable ,helpfull friendly people here--Handi-holics. Be warned, this is a highly contagious condition with no cure ;D .
Again, welcome come on in and stick around.

Welcome dockhouse! David shares good advice, there's a link in the FAQsto best factory ammo which would be a good one to read once you've covered the basics to get the most out of the new Handi.  ;)

Welcome dockhouse,

What Tim said! Me personally, I've always liked a 150gr bullet.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

No one ever told me about the handi-holic situation and I've found out the hard way. I bought my first one a year ago and now own 3 !! This forums mod is quickdtoo and has been very helpful. A ton of info on here about the handi's. Congrats on the new gun !

WELCOME DOCKHOUSE!!

The 30-06 is one thats not spoken much about here. But its because we all know its a big boy, one thats been there and done that so many times its a given. Its one most of us own, but like preaching to the choir we all know its good. You made a good choice, I know your going to enjoy it!

Do you hand load?  I don't shoot much of any factory loaded ammo anymore, sans 22RF...

For me my 30-30, 300 Savage and 307/308 have the 150/165 weight covered. My '06's get 180 thru and including 220 RN in one Springfield.

If you do hand load, try IMR 4350 and a 165-180g bullet in a near max loading. It has accounted for boatloads of deer thru the years.

For starters the std 150 gr is probably the best place to start.
