STREAK. Thanks. I come to this site most every night and go through the music here. On some, other sites present themselves after the song is over. I love the old time Gospel music. Beaulah land is a beautiful song, and Lifes Railway to Heaven by Patsy Cline is great, I've listed it too, in the last post on that thread. POWDERMAN.

Yeah powderman,
I was born and raised in N.W. Louisiana and my daddy had a great bass voice and sang in a gospel quartet on KWKH radio in Shreveport for awhile. We went to alot of gospel singings at some churches that resembled alot of those shown with the YouTube of The old country church!!
We use to go to all of the professional quartet performances that we could make!
Some of the quartets we saw were "The Statesman", Stamps Baxter, the Stamps,
Florida Boys, Jordanaires( Use to sing with Elvis), Blackwood Brothers, etc!
Always enjoyed all of these shows.

Also the " Happy Goodman Family"!
When i was a youngster back in the late 40`s and early 50`s lived in Dallas, Texas and got to go the Stamps Baxter School of music one summer, and another summer I went to the Stamps school of music! One night my daddy took my mother and me and my two brothers over to the Will Rogers Colliseum in Ft. Worth to see the Statesman Quartet in concert. That night Gulf Oil Company offered to anyone in the audience $1000 if they could sing as high as Denver Crumpler( sp) of the Statesman Quartet. There were no takers. Great Show!

streak, when was your daddy performing on KWKH? Back from the late 40's to the early 60's we used to listen to the radio, especially gospel music. I believe KWKH was one of the power radio stations or it could have been another one out of Shreveport. We didn't have a TV at home until the late 50's. My daddy owned a furniture and appliance store and we got to go to it on Friday or Saturday nights to watch the prize fights and some gospel hour on a TV he had for sell. I remember all those gospel groups you mentioned. We didn't have a TV at home because daddy didn't want us kids to spend all our time sitting in front of it. I do believe I am a better person for not doing it.

It was in the late very late forties and possibly into the early fifties when he sang in the quartet. The name of the quartet was the "Gospel Aires" (SP)?

The members of the quartet were Dick Payne(SP)?, Charlie Holst,Charles Summerlin(SP)?, Mose Holt( my daddy) and Charlie Holst wife played the piano.

In the late 40's and through the early 60's KWKH was a clear band, high wattage radio station, I believe. I do remember listening to a Shreveport radio station that came in loud and clear at night all the way over to the East coast of Georgia. We lived in Brunswick. I remember my daddy tuning in stations such WWL, WLS, WCKY, Nashville's Grand Ole Oprey (I believe WLAC) and a station in Del Rio. Texas.

Powderman didn't see your post on Tom Horn. I don't know if it was covered in the movie. In real life Toms last request was for a fellow cowboy from the Iron Mountain Ranch near Walcot Junction Wyoming to sing the old hymn. And he did.
