Well I guess I joined the Modern Sporting rifle club this past weekend. I took a 105lbs doe at 240yards with my DPMS LR308 I have been building. The load was a 150gr remington coreloc at 2500fps. I have been running my rifle with a FSC30 muzzle brake for three gun competitions and such. Well after shooting this deer I will be removing the muzzle brake since this was the first time I fired the gun without ear muffs on. The brake works wonderful but its about like getting hit with a flash bang, I had to stop for a breif moment to shake the cobwebs out of my head. The deer was quartering torwards and the round hit directly in the facing shoulder. The round destroy the shoulder and procceded into the far side ribs and stopping under the skin. Beleive it or not but the deer still traveled 200yards after the shot. It still amazes me how much mortal damage a deer can take and still go as far as they do. Since the hunt I have taken off the FSC30 and put the old A2 flash hider back on cause I plan on coyote hunting with this rifle on a relatives far that is having a problem with coyotes. 110gr V-Maxs shoot quite well out of this rifle. I've been looking at other muzzle devices that throw sound away from the shooter ie like the Troy claymore, flame hog and such. as of right now though I'm goning to stick with the A2 and if I find something that works I'll try it.
