Ghost Sight Handi Rifle?
« on: June 17, 2012, 12:03:51 AM »
I was thinking of installing this on my Handi Rifle.  It is made by XS Sight System.  It attaches to the Weaver mount already on the gun.  Do you think I will need to raise the front sight if I put this on the back?

If it's like mine, you probably will have to raise the front blade, especially if you add the height of the barrel contour and the weaver mount to the base of the rear sight itself. I used a Bullseye rear sight on my .30-30 barrel. It fit the dovetail notch, but I had to use the short version and turn it around because of the barrel contour. It's a step adjust. Costs about $17, and I did not have to raise the front blade.

Just get the Williams sight and take out the aperture.  I think it would be more cost effective.  But zero it with the aperture installed first

Just a thought

Do you have a part number?  Not sure which one you are talking about.  Thanks.

Needles... What scope rail do you have?  Is this sight for the Weaver 82 with the step cut out of the back?

XS makes a low and high weaver style sight. I think if I was gonna spend that much on a sight, if I didn't need the scope rail, I'd opt for the Skinner sight, you'll still need a taller front sight tho due to the original barrel sight being mounted lower than the chamber swell mounted sight.

My Handi has a dovetail cut at the back of the barrel, just in front of where the barrel widens for the chamber. (It's a pre- H&R 1871 nickle coat model.) So I just took the Weaver scope rail off. I mounted the Bullseye peep sight with the adjuster towards the front of the barrel, using the short version of the sight. I'm at work tonight, so I'll post some pictures tomorrow. It works great! The Bullseye has a double ring , so it's easy to pick up the bead on the front sight, and seems to be easier to center, what with the sight a little farther away from your eye, and all.
