Bream spawning on Bed

A friend of mine swears that he can smell Bream when they are on the beds spawning. I have noticed that bubbles are formed when they are spawning but I could not smell them. Any one else able to smell them?

i have never noticed; but that could well be because i was too busy fishing!    

i will guess that it is possible.  i learned years ago that a hunters nose can often be the first thing to warn of incoming game.  my dad had talked about this before and i scoffed at him.  a few years later i learned the hard way; and have been tipped off several times by smell before anything else.  

   bream concentrate their beds and it wouldnt seem too outlandish that enough spawn was in the water that someone might smell it.  if i can smell a whitetail buck at 100 yards, someone might be able to smell fish spawning.

I can smell them. No joke , :-D  Its a very strong "fishy" smell. Although it seems the shellcracker or redear, whatever you call them smell way stronger than bluegill and its more common to smell them when their on bed than bluegill, guess cause the smell is so strong. Either way they are a blast to catch and good eating.

I don't know if it's the power of suggestion or not but I too have a buddy that pointed out a particular smell when 'gills are on the beds. I learned from him how to recognize the smell and now, when the air and humidity are just right, I can often pick up the smell when they are on the beds. I've never tried to "cold trail" bluegills but...every now and then I catch that faint scent and connect it to the fish.
