Today's news includes a story about musician Bob Welch who committed suicide. My understanding is that he was in ill health, and was probably driven to suicide because of his ailments.

Can you imagine things getting so bad that you would take your own life? The thought terrifies me. I think I could do it if it meant protecting my wife from the hardship of caring for an involent or losing our home and money to medical bills. But I would not want to be in that position.

The news story just highlights something that probably happens daily. Very, very sad.

I've never known anyone that did this, but I did know a guy who made a "lifestyle decision" in the final days of his cancer. He decided not to try chemotherapy because the probability of success was very low, and he thought it would be best to enjoy the rest of the time he had and not go through the difficult treatment, or put his wife through the ordeal. I always thought he did a brave and correct thing that was best for him and his wife.

Seen him perform with Fleetwoodmac back in the 70's. He was very talented. Such a sad ending to his life.
