356 Range Report
« on: June 04, 2012, 05:45:50 PM »
Went out for a bit today with the 356.  Hot and humid here in Louisiana, ought to be in the AC.  Here's a few pics, this thing wants to shoot anything you throw at it!

Ain't that sweet, Bobby?  Ya gotta love em :-* One of my best days in recent times was when I let Dinny convince me to do the .356.  I bought the 180 SSPs for it, but never loaded them; they went to the Maxi.  I also had 225 gr. Sierra Gameking BTs on back order and cancelled those.  The 200 gr. Hornadys shot so well I stopped right there.  I'm more than pleased with the accuracy and was amazed at how flat it shot.  The interesting thing about it is yours was done with a .35 Remington and mine a .357.  They both shoot the same with different rates of twist and the same bullet.  I'm shooting 46.0 gr. H4895.

That is interesting Pete.  I'm gonna go look at the twist rates.

Did you check yours Pete?  It could be 15.5 and the 35 Rem is 16.  So they may not be that different.

I had trouble getting a jag and rod that would turn properly, but as close as I could tell it is the 18 3/4.

That's some good shooting there, Bobby! I'm glad you and Pete caught the .356 Winnie bug. It's another "soon to be my most favorite" Handi in my extensive lineup.

Thanks, Dinny in Afg

The downside to the 356/358 is it is prone to make safe queens of the other guns in our collections ::)

George, that's the truth.  One of the reasons I sold my .30-06 was exactly that.  I was barely using it anyhow, and if you read Paco Kelly, the .358 loaded hot will do just about the same with more damage at the terminal end.  On top of all that, it carried forward the inherent accuracy of the Handi .357.  Mine's pretty, compact at 18 inches, and deadly.  I love it.  Thank You ;)
