Multiple Barrels ?'s
« on: May 20, 2012, 04:49:47 AM »
How many of you have multiple barrels for a single receiver?

I have many H&R shotguns but no rifles and am getting ready to get one or two.....

The thing that makes me nervous about multiple barrels is the handi basics listed:

2. Close the action with some force, when new this is extremely important, the latch and latch shelf need to mate and that doesn't happen real fast, takes some open and close cycles for the parts to get used to each other.

I am a bit of an accuracy nut and wonder if this lends itself to be best to have dedicated receiver barrel combo's??

Thx..........

Once I fit a barrel to a receiver, it stays there. Unless I sell or trade the barrel. :)

It all depends.  If you like to tinker with the guns, switching barrels around may work for you and a lot of people like that.

I like to get one shooting like I want it and do not want to mess with it, ever again if I don't have to except to shoot it.  Kind of obsessive/compulsive type of thing I am told.  Anyway, I like a designated receiver for each barrel.

I have not had any problems with any of my barrels changing  zero when removed and then put back on. I think the barrel moves around quite a bit when opened to eject/extract with these actions so removing it completely isn't much different. Marking the forend screw or using a tourque screw driver to ensure the screw is tightened the same may help alleviate any concern with forend pressure. I tend to mate one barrel to one receiver but that is mainly because I have so many receivers. If I had just a few, I would not hesitate to have multiple barrels assigned to a single receiver.

I have not had any problems with switching barrels. I could not afford the xtra  stocks and receivers to make each one a whole rifle. I find  that I have about 3 barrels per receiver average.
