Ruger 44 Carbine: some info?

Hi All...am considering buy the wife a little 44 Carbine for her to use on the small food plots (for whitetails)...this particular gun was manufactured in 1981, and is in pretty darn nice condition, I thought.  Any thoughts on the reliability, etc., of this gun?  I appreciate any tidbit of info...

The Ruger .44 Magnum is a fine carbine, and my favorite semi-auto design.  I like it better than the available lever-action carbines.

Be sure to check and see if the carbine has been fired with lead bullet ammo.  If it has, there is a probablility that the gas port and mechanism is clogged and needs detail stripping and cleaning.

Other than that, congratulations on choosing a great rifle!

I also have a Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine. Mine has a 1.5 X 5 Redfield wide view scope. It is a great little carbine. Mine was owned by a woman originally. Mike.

I had one for a few years, they ought to work great for what you want. Mine did not cycle the 180 or 200 gr ammo very well, but did great with the 240 gr.

thanks for the feedback...i have another question, though...

Is there any way (for a gunsmith, etc.) to lighten the trigger?  its pretty darn stiff, IMO.
