Ranchdog 175 gr mold in a Max or 35 rem handi?
« on: May 02, 2012, 02:02:01 PM »
Just picked up a ranchdog 359-175 mold on that auction site.  Anyone loading any of these in 357 max or 35 rem?  This one is split 3 GC and 3 plain so its the best of both worlds.  Now I need to pick up the 190 grainer and life will be good. Anyone have any load data for this one?
Had a guy give me 400 lb of wheel weights this past weekend so you can guess what I am going to be doing! ;D

Marlin Owners web site has nothing but excellent results on Ranchdog's molds from any of the members who have used any of them.  And there are a BUNCH of the guys have them and love em.  DP

I have that mold, all GC.  I'm shooting a Max with a 24" 1 in 16 barrel.  My book is out in the shop, but as I recall I was getting around 1" at 50yds.  I moved on up to the 190gr RD mold as I observed that my rifle likes boolits 180gr and up.  I'm getting 1/2" or less at that range with a stiff charge of A1680 and lubing the boolits with LLA using the dip method that Ranch Dog describes on his site.  Velocity runs around 2100.  For some reason my gun doesn't seem to like other powders such as 2400 and 4227.  Will be doing some more work with that 175gr mold, it definitely holds promise.  Goat

That sounds like a dandy, good score! If the as cast dia. fits your rifles throat it ought to shoot well. I think the over all performance should be great and have somewhat better trajectory than the heavier. Ive seen a 'hollow pointing jig' somewhere........just slips over the top and guides the drill bit down.
