Rossi 92 Parts? (Particularly Cartridge Stop)
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:40:20 PM »
Hey y'all,

I searched all over the place to find a Rossi 92, and found myself a dandy one on Gun Broker.  it has a pretty unique 18" bbl, porting, and fiber optic sights.  'Lo and behold, I went to shoot it, and discovered that the Cartridge stop is trash.

I've tried the usual guys...M&M Gunsmithing, Steves Gunz, etc.  The folks at Rossi insisted on knowing the importer, serial, number, etc. and then told my my gun didn't exist.  I've a feeling it was akin to buying a battery cable at NAPA and having them ask a dozen irrelevant questions about what kind of transmission your car has, what color interior, etc.

Has the 92 changed significantly over the years?  I know the .454 changed the mag tube, but other than that....

Maybe a Winchester Cartridge Stop would fit?

Any other ideas?  It seems a great little rifle, and I'm awful eager to use it, but I can't without the darn Cartridge Stop.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas.

Taurus bought Rossi and renamed it to Braztech/Rossi.
Braztech/Rossi will not support any of the Rossi 92s manufactured before the Taurus takeover.
The basic design has not changed except for the addition of a stupid bolt safety on the new R92s manufactured by Braztech/Rossi.
You need to find the serial number of an equivalent Braztech 92 (one that is closest in specs to your gun) and use it to order parts for your old gun.
Braztech/Rossi apparently will not ship parts if you don't have the serial number above.

Are you talking about the crappy plastic yellow thing on the end of the magazine spring? I have seen a thread somewhere on another board where a guy made a new one out of a brass jag or ramrod tip for a muzzleloader. I cant remember where I saw it but it sounded pretty easy to do.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Lakota, a stainless steel replacement part for that yellow follower is marketed by Steve's Gunz.  Also by the Smith Shop.  Both have websites if you google them.  Nate Kiowa Jones runs Steve's Gunz, and is the nationally known expert on Rossi fixups.

Steve's Gunz sells an inexpensive DVD tune up kit for each caliber of Rossi 92 complete with the SS magazine follower and a new spring. If you follow the simple "monkey see, monkey do" instructions in the DVD your gun will be as slick as a $3000 custom Turnbull 92 when you're finished. Buying the kit is just like getting a "house call" from a top-gun gunsmith.

I suspect you guys may be following the wrong trail.  Unless the OP mistyped, I do not think he was referring to the follower.  The cartridge stop is a different part altogether.  It's the hinged bit on the left side of the action that makes only one shell feed from the tube magazine at a time.  Unfortunately, the OP also did not specify which caliber he has, so even if I could track down one of those, I don't know which one he needs.
