Disassemble a BC

I did do some searches, but didn't find what I was looking for.  As much as I dread it, I believe my BC is going to get taken apart.  Are there any detailed instructions for taking the action apart?
 
I did find the instructions for the trigger work.  What I am considering is changing the hammer spring. Am I somewhat right in thinking that I could remove the trigger group and then the hammer pin enough to remove spring and then reassemble.

Yup, Perlo's download has pretty much everything you need to know to replace the hammer spring and a lot more.

Perklo's is great and should get you through your receiver work just fine.  I reccommend that you read the part about the SLAVE PIN and make one or two of them before you ever pickup a mallet and pin punch.  If you pull your trigger group w/o the slave pin and the parts land where they may it can be a bit trying to put it back together the first time.  Also, yes you can partially remove the hammer pin and do a hammer spring swap without removing the hammer, which is how I do it if the t-bar is good.

The instructions for dis-assembly are in Perklo's instructions on Trigger work.  You are correct in your assumption about removing the trigger group, and then partial removal of the hammer pin to replace the hammer spring.

+1 on quickdtoo and bikerbeans advice.  Especially the part about making the slave pins,  If you don't use the pins, you will be muttering sweet nothings  :P to yourself for quite a long time, while trying to reassemble the trigger group.

I also recommend that you use the "fixture" that Perklo recommended, other wise you might gouge the frame.  Don't ask me how I know.  :-[ :-X

Continuing this tale of woe, I discovered this at the range today. I am shooting right handed, if I pulled the trigger as you normally would, the rifle does not fire, even though the primer is struck a fairly good blow, however, if I put pressure on the left side of the trigger while pulling, the rifle fires every time, with about the same indent in the primer. There is not a lot of play in the trigger side to side.  I am completely stumped again, and I haven`t done anything to it.

I did know about the trigger pull, but it did not help the situation. The rifle is about one fun filled year old.

If it is the transfer bar.  It's really not that hard a fix.  I made excuses for the longest time, before, I took my first Handi apart, after going thru the instructions a few times, I decided to take the plunge.  It turned out easier than expected, the only slight problem, was when I was reassembling the receiver, and had to deal with the shelf latch spring, after the first time, it's fairly easy.
If you run into trouble, you can always ask for advice here. 
Where do you live?  If your within a reasonable drive, I'll give you a hand repairing it.

I appreciate all the replies about this rifle.  I decided on the final solution and sold off the barrel, stock set and Smith Ent. rear sight.  I did not want to sell a defective rifle, although that didn't bother H&R.  In the future after I dismantle the frame I will sell a baggie of spare parts. I  feel that I have added 5 years to my life.
I reckon I won't be on this particular board too much anymore, but there are plenty of other guns on Graybeard's forum.  Good luck to all.

Capt.Augustus: Don't give up my friend. I have worked on many, many weapons in my many years and have found that EVERY company has sent out Lemons. Most have good quality control, BUT every now and then a lemon slips by. Make Lemonade!! Admittedly H&R has been letting more than they should slide by. I admit that I have been lucky in that the two that I have (a 30-30 and 357maggie) lock up like a bank vault and are extremely accurate. both have 3# triggers and break like glass. Good for me--I'm waiting--I'm sure that I will get one that needs to be worked on. If and when--then I will do so. If this one is so aggravating, do as you have and part it out--------then get another one in 357 or 30-30 and find out that there is a lot of fun waiting for you. AND ABOVE ALL, stick around--we need good people. we would miss you. God Bless to all.
