I'm pretty sure having one of those would land me in  jail. :(

Heading shortly with the shorty.  Don't cut yourself short on time or ammo ;)

I like it.  Very similar to my 16.5 inch maxi.  I'm thinking of chopping my .44 too, but only to 18.  I want to keep a little more burn time for its .445s.  My .38-55 and .356/.358 are 18 too, and very Handi.  Good luck with it.

Gotta ask.  How long is that barrel?

16 1\4. final 3 shot group at 50 yds. other shots were getting the scope dialed in. Not bad with a 5 dollar bushnell from the 70"s I picked up at a yard sale a few weeks ago for 5 bucks.

I "borrowed" some handloads from my shooting partner. It really liked the 240 gr xtp with 23.0 grains of h110 and cci mag pistol primers.

Thanks Dave. I think the next step is to ream it to 445. I hunt thick woods in south west Pa so this will be the perfect rifle  for the job and its just a blast to shoot.

Always good to see a Handi cutting groups like that.  In the area you hunt, will you gain much by rechambering your 44?  Of course the best reason to do that is "cause I wanna" ;D .  DP

Seems like all of the "pistol" caliber Handi's shoot great. I know all of mine do. By far my favorite cartridges in this platform.

No I probably wont gain anything but I just want to do it. Plus I hunt other areas occassionally and the extra oomph would come in handy.

44 shorty looks good, how short can I cut a barrel here in Michigan ? How are you crowning the cut end.

16". I always try to go 16.5 so there are no discrepancies.

See the cut and crown info in the FAQs for starters, there are several options, even a video!  ;)

Federal law is 16"... thats ALL states. Most say 16.25. The extra .25 is so there is not mistake in peoples rulers. ;)

While we on the topic, SHOTGUN barrels or NON RIFLED barrels are 18". Again Federal, most say 18.5 and the same holds for the .5 its just security.
Its all in the FAQ's..

There is a parish (county) in Louisiana that has a 20" requirement.  ::)
So, as always, check your local laws also.  ;)
