Info on Savage 114W
« on: January 24, 2004, 05:30:22 AM »
Can anyone provide info on the Savage 114W?  I learned about this model from a couple of posts that I have read but the Savage web page does not list nor say anything about them.

Thanks and God Bless,

Alan

Probably you read my posts on it. I bought one about a month ago in .243 caliber. Since I couldn't find info. on it at theSavage website, I called them to ask.Seems like it was a special edition for Ellet Bros. (spelling?) with a nicer semi-gloss finish and cap on the grip, but less glossy than the Ultra models. I have seen them at two gun shows in .22-.250, .243. and it seems like .308. Couldn't find any info. at Ellet's website either.

Mine has a very nice looking stock with stripes in the walnut. Pretty. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info.  You mentioned that your rifle has an end cap.  There are a couple of 114w's on the auction sites and they are have stocks similar to a Remington ADL.  Does your 114 have the Accutrigger?

Mine does not have an Accutrigger, it was a 2003 model, however, the trigger is not all that bad. I took it to a gunsmith to have it adjusted to a lighter pull and he questioned why I wanted to do so, since he guessed the pull to be 4 or 5 lbs. So, he suggested that I thoroughly break it in before bring it back for a trigger adjustment. (you can find instructions on how to adjust the 2003 and previous Savage triggers at numerous places on the internet.)
