Winchester Parfive Tanto Folding Clip Knife
« on: July 09, 2010, 09:26:15 PM »
I ran across this knife a couple of months ago while out of town working. A coworker had one. I laugh at him trying to cut something like some tape on a box. It was dull to the point he had to punch several holes in the tape and tare it open by hand. I just could stop laughing about his cheap Chinese knife. I got my Lansky kit so I offered to sharpen it for him. After working it over with the Lansky I was shocked at the 25 degree edge it took. I kept the knife for the rest of the week before giving it back to him. I gave that knife a workout, and for a cheap knife it held the edge. I put a touch up edge on it before giving it back. I grew fond of the knife.

I'm not a fan of cheap Chinese knifes. Nor a fan of part serrated blades. But because of the handiness of the knife, and the hardiness of the blade, I got my wife one. Then just today she gave me one. If anyone is in need of a cheap handy pocket clip knife with a fairly harden blade that will take an edge and hold it. The Winchester Parfive Tanto Folding Clip Knife is worth looking at.

I also am not a fan of serrated or partially serrated blades, never found much use for them with light weight knives, though they probably have their place , I just haven't discovered what exactly that place would be. They are a Pain in the rear to sharpen. Also most I have seen the serrations are to small in length for much practical use.

I've got to say this is just a kick around cut anything and all. I remember reading some where the blade steel is 440A or 440C. I do know it will sharpen well, and retain an edge after fairly hard use. I have found the serrated part to come in handy cutting boxes and rope. This pocket clip knife is the first of it's kind I've ever owned. I've lost just about every pocket knife I've own. So if I keep this cheap knife for a while, I'll look in to a better one.

I still have the Winchester knife. Use it just about everyday. Holds a workable edge for a long time. The serrated part of the blade comes in handy when cutting cardboard boxes. Sharpens easy. A few strokes on a diamond stone and it'll shave. This is the longest I've ever kept a EDC knife. Been a work horse for sure. But it's time for a new knife. Got a new one on the way. Warning about a new thread coming.  :o
