Rem. 16 ga 58 Sportsman part ?
«

I have a Remington 58 Sportsman in 16 gauge that has a two piece action bar assembly. The rear piece that engages the bolt is broke. I've checked with Jack First, and Gun Parts Inc. and have had no luck. I was just wondering if any one out there had this part and would sell it or knew where I might find one. Can the one piece assembly work on this gun. I'm assuming the newer 58's had the one piece assembly. Thanks.

I doubt that Mikey. Remington hasn't made that Model 58 since I guess the late 50s or early 60s without looking back to be sure. I doubt anyone working there even remembers it after all these years. Still someone might.
Many parts of that gun are I believe interchangeable between it and the Model 870. Barrels are if you drill a gas port in an 870 barrel or plug it in the 58 barrels for the pump. This part might be too.

Where did the carrier break? Might it be possible to fix. From what I can tell with the little I have the one piece and composite carriers were the same. Just a change to ease manufacture. Perhaps it would be possible to fix the broken bolt carrier? It may be a good idea to contact Remington service. While they won't have parts, they may have an idea as to who to contact. Someone who is known to work with this model or who may have parts..

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully the newer one piece assembly will fit if I can locate one. I may try the Remington folks just in case. It's a nice old gun, it would be ashame to have to retire it. The piece that engages the bolt is broken in half. It's prety thin and I don't know if any kind of repair would last. I guess that would be a last resort. Thanks again. greer

If it broke in the slot where the bolt sits it should be possible the weld. I'd suggest a MIG or TIG welder with high tensile wire. If the sheet metal arms broke it may be more of a problem but you may try a good autobody shop. The guys who weld panels in newer autos use high strength wire and are artists with a MIG.. My wife cousin and my good friend can weld metal as thin as a new car fender!! that's mighty thin..
