Maybe I'm just lucky, but in defense of the 870's I have two in my safe that have functioned perfectly since I bought them. One, a 20 ga bought new, even went trap and skeet shooting with it, has never malfunctioned at all. The other, a 12 that I bought a used action, and new barrel and stock set for, has only been fired a few hundred times, but has always fed and functioned without a complaint. Both of these are the express models. One thing I did to both was to disassemble the guns and apply lapping compound to all of the action surfaces, then re-assemble the guns, dry cycle them a few hundred times (wife got really tired of hearing a pump gun cycle

) then disassemble again, clean out the action, lube it, and re-assemble the gun. As long as the timing is good on these they can be made as good as the wingmasters were (at least functionally, they will never be as pretty)
