Fighting mad and need to vent!!!

Just spend 15+/- minutes on hold with H-R/Rem CS and then got an incompetent CS rep who simply hung up on me after she figured out she could not answer a simple question. What the #$$%^$##$%%^%^!!!!!!!!!!
 
All I wanted to know was if I needed to pay sales tax on the repair cost AND shipping or just the repair cost and what the tax rate was. Here in IL we only pay sales tax on repairs not labor, but I'd pay what ever Rem wants, just wanted to know Rems policy. I tried googling the IL tax rate but came up with several different rates. I figured Rem CS would know since they can take payment over the phone for parts, guess I figured wrong. To make matters worse she wanted the serial # for some reason, I told her I was at work and the gun was at home. She never said another word all I heard was 'click'. And no I never was irrated or nasty with her. I was not mad until she hung up. I'd called back to complain but what good would it do???!!! All that would happen is I'd get stuck on hold and then hung up on.

Sorry to hear that Jim, not the kind of customer service we expect,  seems to me it's NYS tax that's paid, but I don't recollect for sure.

Out of curiousity, where do I look to find that? Can't even find it on the IL Dept. of Revenues website. It can tell you what the sales tax rate for an airplane is but not general merchandise.

Ok, the payroll lady here at work did some checking. It is in fact 6.25% for general mechandise here in IL. You know I would not be mad if the Rem CS women had said that she didn't know the rate and left it at that. But like I said before, all she has to do is look it up in her computer. If a buy a stock set or a scope base from H-R/Rem over the phone with a credit card, they have to charge IL sales tax, I know because shortly after Rem bought them I used the wifes credit card to buy a Pardner stock set, so there is no way Rem CS can claim they don't have that info. But so be it. Hanging up on me for no reason is why I'm red hot.

I live in Michigan and paid Michigan's 6% sales tax on material only (the barrel I sent for).  Michigan has no sales tax on shipping or labor.  I got that info before hand from a guy at H&R CS.  The woman you spoke with must have been having a blonde Monday, PMS and CRS.  That's the kind of crap Remington has to address.  If they can't learn the job, get someone who will.  When I called about the tax info, the guy I got kept asking me for the serial number and other stuff........all of it was on the order form I was sending in.  He said he had to generate a shop work order.  I told him I'd call back with the info.  I finished the billing with the tax info and put the frame and order form in the Mail.  A little over a week later I had my frame and barrel home.  I don't know what's with Madison.

  Guess Brian was not speaking for everyone as it is different where each person lives.
My tax rate is .0290 state and .010 county for a total of .0390, We also pay tax on shipping and Yes, H&R charged properly including for shipping.
I do not see how the CS lady could quote your rate until an invoice or work order has been generated as only billing would have such information. We know that H&R is not communicating properly with  Remington or they would know which barrels are or not in stock, so what makes you think billing, sales, or any department work on the same network ?

One of the reasons I've been slow to order that .22 Hornet barrel I want is they charge sales tax but my state (Oregon) has no sales tax...

Otterbob- if she had simply stated that she could not get the tax rate for me, all would of been fine. It was just an idea that I had to quickly obtain my state tax rate which is strangely absent from the IL Revenue office website.

It's because you really don't have a sales tax. It is a USE tax. If you go buy gas in Iowa, you have to set aside the 6.25% use tax to hand in at the end of the year. You go out to eat in ANY other state it is the same thing. That is why you pay more for gas and everything else in IL. It is the use tax.

We just got a new phone system at work... I am occasionally in the control module... and they tech's idea of training was a two minute blurb pointing at buttons and saying they "do this, or that." I will bet I dropped twenty calls while trying to hold and transfer... I will bet the CS girl, tried to put you on hold to get the info you were looking for and accidentally cut you off... frustrating for sure... especially after a long phone wait... but I wouldn't let it eat at you, it was probably acidental.

that is the way it is now and it is getting worse but be sure it doesn't ruin your day it is a waste of your time.

It's getting worse and worse with H&R. Customer service that don't know which end is up, guns coming from the factory with crooked scope rails, stocks that look like crap, guns coming right out of the box banged up from the gun lock bouncing around in there, etc...
And all of that for more money than some bolt guns that'll shoot MOA or close to it right out of the box.
Say what you want about Rossi and some of the other brands but at least they are putting out new guns and making changes to their lineup. H&R is happy to trudge along with the same old same old and now they even see fit to dump some of their offerings.
It's too bad that things are going downhill for them but it's their own fault.
