Sometimes change is good!
« on: November 23, 2011, 08:45:06 AM »
There hasn't been a deer go past my "Stop and Snack" stand since the beginning of the season!   :(  And I just put up that new (quasi permanent) ladder stand... not to mention the feeder.   >:(  I pulled the card on my camera Sunday and had 3 pictures for the week!  2 black and one squirrel.  :-\

Anyway, I moved to a new section of the farm the week before last and immediately saw deer.  And, last Saturday evening I popped a little 4 point with my 30-30 Handi; an easy broadside shot.  He did a double flip when hit and I thought he was DRT but when I got to the spot he was nowhere to be seen!   :o

Now the woods down in Sounth Jawja define "thick!"  Fortunately the 125 gr. Rem. PSP gave me an entrance and an exit hole so I followed blood for about 50 yards right to him.  I honestly don't think I would have found him without the blood trail.

So I have my fawn and one eatin deer in the freezer so far.  Still need a doe or two more though.  But I'm not hunting this weekend.  Thanksgiving with the kids and Honey-do's for me!   ;D

The Pits !!
We had our first good dump of snow yesterday, anywhere from 12" and up. I don't have a 4x4 so it means staying put and as much as I like the snow to be gone, the warming up for the rest of the week isn't helping either. We only got 8 more hunting days left. :(

Howdy Richard,
Weather has been crazy hot-cold-hot-cold down here.   We got two 8 pts and a doe this weekend. Will post pix when I get home tomorrow.    passed on a few smaller bucks.    The rut really never came in down here - probably cause its been to durn hot.    Oh well I'll be back next two weekends to chase more venison and hopefully not swat anymore skeeters.  ;D

That's the good thing about being a meat hunter.  I will shoot the first buck I see, then hold on to my 8 pt or larger tag.  That way, I can hunt for horns when the freezer is full!   ;D

Surviving only....sooo tired of work'n....really over rated.....long past the radiance I felt from my TX trip.  Hunt'ns all over for me.....just a MEGA taxidermy bill that I refused to confront when I made the plans to go....

Y'know...I may just do another Nilgai in a year or so and if'n I do...you gotta meet me...whatta hunt!

That sounds like a plan to me!   ;)   They have never been high up on my "I wanna hunt" list, but they are a darn sight better then nothing!   ;D

And by the vidio you posted it looks like you had a great time!

Um, how do they taste?   ???

That's the good thing about being a meat hunter.  I will shoot the first buck I see....................

I don't have that option here unless I go to a specific part of NS. So as it happened to turn out, yesterday at 1530 hours a button buck came into my view and being a meat hunter only that Ugly Stick of a rifle I had with me on that day "spoke".

The buck is now hanging in my neighbor's barn. I'm thankful and satisfied. :)

Here's one of the 8 pts taken this Thanksgiving weekend.....other 8 pt pic coming soon.    the other deer's rack was narrower than this one but his body was heavier.   The Good Lord has provided and we give Thanks..... :)

Here in Middle Georgia (Wilkinson County) it has been off and on. Opening weekend, I took two Does and back on November 17, I took a nice buck with my Daughter. It was like the rut never really got going here. Work has been busy so have not been in the woods as much as I like.  :'(  Sorry about the picture taken with my cell at C &B processors and the lighting was not the best, played with the photo to lighten it up.
Everyone has a game plan, until they get punched in the mouth.

Can't wait for the next pic Gregg!   :D  And I know I owe you a couple of PM's...  :-[  Soon pal... soon!   ;)

The rut down in Bacon County has always been strange to me.  If GON is to be believed, it should peak around the end of October to the first of November.  We were finding fresh scrapes the third week of November!   :o  The fawns are mostly still with the does and the small buck I killed was following a doe with fawns...  :-\  'course it could have been his momma from last year...  ???

We're seeing the same thing down our way Richard....I let two different does with their fawns walk on separate days (got a freezer full right now) and we have seen several button bucks walking with the does.   I have the brother of your little buck on my camera! :D   check out the pix below - the rack sure looks like its been swimmin' in the same gene pool.  I'm gwan back to camp tomorrow for a three day search for the boy in pic #2.     Give me a shout ifn you can make it down.   Gotta empty cabin waiting.   Hopefully the mild freeze we had this week will have knocked out the skeeters.

Decided to do a little Moonlight pork harvest last nite.... ;)     Clear cut by the timber company left a whitesand moonscape and the full(almost) moon was almost directly overhead last nite.  We left our afternoon stands and dumped out some corn.    Vision was very far.   We came home and had dinner then went back.  Little after 8 pm Tommy scored the largest of 6 feeding on the corn.  He was a hogharvestvirgin so last night was a celebration for him!   ;D
We'll  be back to do it again next weekend.    :D

How cool is that!!!  :o

I wish I could get down there, heck you're only 25 miles from me when I'm hunting!  I had a good time this weekend but didn't see any deer except on my camara.  Maybe next weekend.  See my other threads.   ;)

Well closing weekend was a good-un fer us down to Waycross  ;D    Got two bucks on Friday (spike and a 7  pt),  a doe on Saturday,  and Sat evening I put an end to my old nemesis,  that 200+ lb foodplottearingup-cornvacuum piece of pork named Patch.     He has been destroying all the food plots for the past year and sucks up every kernel of corn on the ground.    Well he came out with about 10 minutes of shooting light left and got a 180grain Qtip in his left ear.    Pics coming soon when I get them off my camera.    Trail cams are showing 3 different 8 pts that got away this year,  and the national black bear convention.... ???     They be all over the place...
