Politics Obama Makes Another Gaffe — References Hawaii as Being in ‘Asia’

  Add this to the president’s gaffe list — you know, the one that includes the 57 states and the time he said he gave a medal to living soldier that actually turned out to have sacrificed his life. What was it this time? While speaking in Hawaii this week, President Obama referenced Hawaii as being in Asia:

But President Obama apparently forgot where he was during his press conference Sunday on the outskirts of Honolulu — despite being born there.
The president mistakenly described his location as “Asia” while answering a question about budget cuts.
>“When I meet with world leaders, what’s striking — whether it’s in Europe or here in Asia — the kinds of fundamental reforms and changes, both on the revenue side and the public pension side, that other countries are having to make are so much more significant than what we need to do in order to get our books in order,” Obama said. [Emphasis added]
Obama understandably had Asia on the mind, as his press conference came in the middle of the U.S. hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, where representatives from many Asian countries were in attendance.
And, hey, Hawaii is a latecomer, having only been a state since 1959.

Maybe I’m the stupid one, but I thought Hawaii was a Polynesian island. Therefore making Hawaian folks Polynesians. Polynesia is the term used for the geographic, cultural and demographic of the pacific island people. Not Asia! Maybe they just all look alike to Obama.....
 
Polynesia is generally defined as the islands within the Polynesian Triangle although there are some islands that are inhabited by Polynesian people situated outside the Polynesian Triangle. Geographically, the Polynesian Triangle is drawn by connecting the corners of the Hawaii, New Zealand and Easter Island. The other main island groups located within the Polynesian Triangle are Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Niue, Wallis and Futuna and French Polynesia.
 
However, in essence, Polynesia is a cultural term referring to one of the three parts of Oceania (the others being Micronesia and Melanesia). DNA studies suggest that the indigenous Pacific Islands population migrated from Taiwan thousands of years ago and dispersed throughout the region into three distinct cultural groups.

I think anyone can see the distinct differences in the people, language, customs and culture between Polynesian and Asian people…….Well except Obama, maybe………….
 
Not to mention, of course, that Hawaii is the 50th state in the United States, it’s over 8,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from East Asia and only 2,000 miles from the U.S. mainland.
Just small triflings that are easily overlooked?…….I guess………..
But who knows in the NWO frame of mind of Obama!
 
Just wonder if this gaff will see as much air time on his media outlets as the Republican gaffs?
