Why some politicians don't want tax reform..
« on: November 15, 2011, 11:06:47 AM »
When offered a chance to reform the tax code..make it simpler, more fair or more honest, some politicians "don't want to hear it".  Why should that be ?
Elementary, my dear Watson...   A way to reward big campaign contributors.
Tom Coburn (Oklahoma) has documented such abuse. http://newsok.com/oklahoma-sen.-tom-coburn-releases-report-on-government-subsidies-to-millionaires/article/3623174
Some very affluent people are "farming".. Guys like Jon Bon Jovi apparently pays $100 taxes per year taxes on his big mansion & estate, because he lets somebody keep some bees on his property.
Other names sucking up on special breaks are Ted Turner, Bruce  Springsteen, Scotty Pippin, Quincy Jones and others.
When these guys get out of paying their fair share of taxes, obviously guys like you and I have to PAY MORE.
Politicians from both major parties are great at 'giving favors to get favors', ..and it should be stopped ..by fair tax, flat tax or whatever is needed to stop the thieving...

Since we are now "Importing" so much of our goods why not go back to pre WWI and fund things with tariffs on imports of foreign goods (I know  McDuck hates tariffs but...)

BINGO!   I'm not 100% sold that 9-9-9 is really the best tax plan that could ever be conceived by the minds of men, but anything that starts with throwing out the tax code in it's entirety is starting from a good place.

I have no objections to getting rid of all the envirowacko tax credits.  Another good tax reform is to repeal the earned income credit.  Too many women punching out kids they can't afford, making taxpayers pay for them.

Kudos to Coburn. I'm glad you boys are finally seeing that the philosophy behind  "spread the weatth" is a good idea!!

Crusty,

It is not about spreading the wealth; it is about reducing the freeload for the parasites, and making them put back into the system.   However, if you want to say it is about spreading the wealth, the parasites can spread some of their freebies to me.

Another good reform is reduce personal income tax rates across the board by 8% and implementing a 4% federal sales tax.  It will also get revenue from Internet transactions.

Tt's not about "spread the wealth" so much as it is "levelling the field' for all to EARN their wealth.  The liberal (faulty) view is that wealth is a "zero-sum" game.  They see wealth as a pie, with only so many pieces to go around.
This may be somewhat true in a socialist system, where few work any harder than necessary and creativity is stifled, but in a capitalist system where personal wealth is in direct relationship to amount of work and personal inventiveness..their idea does not hold water.  Hard work and genius create wealth...
The reason the OWS gang are shouting for "spread the wealth", is obviously because they are familiar with neither hard work nor genius.. ;)   ;D

I'm sure that crusty never takes deductions.  he wants the government to take the absolute maximum from him so they can spread it around.
he must work in a pretzel factory, he's real good at twisting.
