Are the 280's bad about having to be "shot in" like the 7-08.  I just got a barrel from a member and it doesn't shoot all that great.  Have only been able to try one load, but they were Federal Premium 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip's.  I thought that they would shoot well, or at least better than they did.  I just loaded some moderate 139's last night but havn't had a chance to try them.  Just wondering if maybe the lighter loads shoot better???

I would check barrel fit per the FAQs, that would be the first suspect if it won't shoot good since it's a second hand barrel, I've had two 280s, one is rechambered to improved, sold one to a friend, but they're both very accurate. FWIW, I have two 7mm-08s, both shoot good too.  ;)

I just recently got a used 280 barrel also. Been wanting one for a while. Havent shot it very much yet, but it does seem to like remington core lokts. I think they are 150gr. I'm at work and don't have them in front of me.

when it comes to factory loads, you just have to keep trying, I just got a Remington
Model 7 243 , it shoots cheap Federal 100's in 3/4" , and Remington 100 grain Core Lokts in 1 1/2"...........

A check of the crown might also be in order. I have a couple of H&R .280's and they both are exceptionally accurate, as are most of the .280's spoke about in this Forum....<><....:)

Mine shoots Federal Fusion 140 grn factory ammo very well, better than my ability to shoot.  I haven't tried any hand loads because the Federal Fusions shoot so well.  Mine is also a second hand barrel and I don't know the round count.

Mine is moa with my handloads all day long.  They will shoot, and mine has not been finicky.  I'm loading 162gr. bullets at moderate velocity.
