7mm tcu carbine?
« on: January 08, 2004, 03:55:42 PM »
I have 1 10" 7mm tcu contender and am interested in getting stock and forend and barrel and changing it to a rifle. Has anyone done this with the 7mm tcu and if so, what length barrel did you use (I am thinking of 24") and what increase in velocity would I expect over the 10" barrel?

I have a 21 inch factory 7MM TCU barrel and find it to be very accurate and the velocity increases over a 10 inch barrel are between 400-500 fps with the appropriate loads.  It is a good choice for both varmits and deer.  contact me at graycg@aol.com for info.

Delete::::7mm TCU Rifle Barrel

I have a buddy that bought one right out from under my bid.  However, I get to shoot it any time I want.  The guy he bought it from also, shot with us and it is a 24" bull barrel from the Custom Shop (about $255) in brushed stainless.  I have fired it many times and like it.

The rifle is deadly accurate.  We shoot at the 500 meter Rifle Silhouette Range 99% of the time.  Taking the 55 pound Steel Rams down at 500 meters (546 yards) requires power.  The 7mm TCU rifle with a 168 grain Sierra Match King with 26.7 grains of H335 behind it will take rams all day long.  You can call your shot placement too.

I have had a Remington 700 barreled in 7TCU for over a year now.  It doesn't care what kind of ammo I stuff in it.  It just keeps on shooting.  Friday, I shot it at Rams with 25.6 gr of H335 with the Hornady 162 gr A-Max bullet.  It takes ram with less gusto, but I didn't ring any, either.

I am an absolute fan of the 7mm TCU cartridge, if you haven't guessed.  I shoot a 14" and 10" TC too.  The 14" will take Rams about 70% of the time with a heavy bullet (168 grains) and too much powder.  I have backed off that quest.  We just set the Rams off the rail a bit (set them light) so we can knock them over.

I'm still thinking about a TC rifle barrel, though.

Hey, Gray.  I'm still shooting the 308 Encore barrel with cast bullets.  My shooting buddy told me yesterday to be sure and load some 308s so he can shoot it this coming Tuesday.
