mosin nagant scope mount
« on: December 16, 2011, 06:02:20 PM »
i recently put a scope on my mosin, i tried to weaver rail adapter but for some godforsaken reason i could not get it mount straight, i gave up and took the rear sight completely  off and exposed the dove tail, i put on scope rings and fired 60 shots, with lock tight and enough torque to bend my leatherman  i tightened the rings. but still the rings crept forward. any ideas how to resolve this issue>? i would like to use it to hunt deer next fall.

This guy shows how he made drilled his scope points and used the pin holes in the dovetail to secure his rings from moving.

Looks like a good way to go if you aren't just going to go with more traditional methods like tapping the receiver and bending the bolt, etc.

That is ver interesting. I have never seen a scope mounted that way on a mosin before. I guess you learn something new everyday.

No doubt about that, LOL!

I thought it was interesting, to be sure. Been debating whether to mess with mine like that or not. Being a 1938 in my case, there's a chance the sight base is soldered on. Don't really want to do anything that's not reversible. Breaking the original solder, to me, is reversible, but wouldn't be original. As compared to say dropping a Mojo Sight on.  May eventually just fabricate my own replacement sight at some point, but will have to wait. Trying to get my working/living situation back to something a little more tolerable, with some time and space to fuss with these things again. Dieing to do some reloading, etc.

Anyway, been studying what's on the web for these guns for a while, so glad I could help.
