« on: January 10, 2004, 04:25:12 AM »
I have a Remington Model 700 Classic in 7x57 cal. My guess is it's 95% wood and metal. Can anyone give me a fair market value?? Thanks, Rudy

Well Rudy,
The 23ed Gun Traders lists Remington Classics as being worth $355 in standard calibers and $395 in magnum calibers.  To me, you have a wonderful 7X57mm caliber that originally made 7mm mauser conversions the "Rage" w/ gunsmiths... one of the best choices for whitetail hunters.

I paid $550 for one about three years ago in 95-98% condition at a local gun show.

As well you might....prices are regional and the official Blue Book may offer a comparison.

Last fall I bought a classic in 300 H&H that was NIB for $650 and consider myself lucky. I later saw them for $750 on up for used rifles!

Condition, locale, and rarity -- some newer Classic calibers are for sale all the time, but many of the older ones are less commonly on offer -- all factor into price. With internet sales, however, regional differences in asking prices are bound to narrow in my opinion.

The classic is one hell of a rifle and well worth the money. I would not give Walmart their asking prices for the newer 700s unless I ws going to use it as donor action.
