Earlier this year I decided to dust off my .22 Magnum, and actually take it to the hunting fields this year. I bought the gun new shortly before I married my wife in 1990. Several boxes of ammo have been through it. It has harvested squirrel, and dispatched varmints (coyotes, groundhogs, rats, etc). I never gave a thought to it being discontinued from production. It has been 9 years since Marlin produced the model 25MN. I have no idea how many were produced, nor if they were popular at all. I was able to get three spare magazines and a spare extractor, so I believe I can keep it running for a long time. Accuracy has been acceptable, though not stellar. 1 1/2 inch groups at 75 yards with a 4x scope is about norm.
I seems strange to me that this gun, along with a Savage 110 chambered in 25'06 are now basically orphans. The factory that produced them no longer supplies parts for them. I guess it is just the price of living...I can only imagine how many times my grandfather bought a new gun, and lived to see it obsoleted.
Got any old ones you bought new that are no longer available on the new market?
