O.K VTDW just one.
We were doing our pre-opening day Bugleing and scouting. On this year(3 years ago)we had called in four Bull's real close three day's before the opener.I was tired and wanted to get down the hill for a cold one.In a semi hurry we were headin out and down when my wife spotted three Cow's in a meadow.Let's stop she said.I didn't want to but did.Pulled down a little skid trail and got out my Cow call and let it go.To my surprise a Bull was right back in my face.I did it again with know reply.
So we walked down the skid trail a bit but it wouldn't talk again.I went back to the Pick-up to get my Bugle. My wife continued to Cow call and imitate a Bugle(with her mouth) while spraying Elk scent like crazy. All the sudden I herd her Cry out,Ron bring the Bull(My .454 Handgun).I turned around and saw her running like I didn't think a woman of her age could do with a real nice 6x6 about 20 yards behind her with his head layed way back to get thru the dense timber. She hit the skid trail and really turned it on and the Bull saw me,the pick-up and realized who it was chasin I guess but he hit the skids with his rump hitting the ground on the downward slope of the skid trail, snorted and walked off.Wish I had a camera.
My wife said she didn't want to come back there but wanted to pick one of the other places for opening day,the next day.I chose to go back there the opening morning and couldn't get her out of the truck. In my mind I wanted a dumber, still in rut,not to bright one,not easily spooked and close to the road.
It's a hanging in our front room as a reminder to her.She never has used Elk scent since and makes sure the Bull is with us everytime we go Bugleing. In all my years I had never seen anything like that, they usually spot or smell you and run off when Bugled in.
Best of luck.Jayco.
