remington pump rifle
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:11:13 AM »
Anyone hunt with a old remington pump in 35rem? There was a older gentleman in our hunt club in Georgia many years ago, that hunted with one. Model 141 I believe. It sure was a nice slender hunting rifle.  ;)  Much better feeling in the hands than the newer model pumps remington puts out, IMO at least.

I always wanted one, but evidently not bad enough to buy one.. Still I really like them.

Pastorp,

I reloaded ammo for a friend at work, his only rife was a Remington 14, The model 14 was made from 1913 to 1934, this was a John Pederson design with a spiral magazine tube that allowed pointed bullets in a tubulear magazine.

I used 200 grain Hornady bullets loaded to a velocity of 1900 FPS in his rifle.

The model 141 was an updated model 14 made 1935-1950.

Yes they were a great handling gun.  My friend hunted in Ashe County, NC and this was his only high powered rifle for deer and bear.

      I've never owned a Model 14 , but I have (2) 141s in .35 , one an 18" Carbine , the other a 24" Rifle ! They are some slick and pretty good shooters too !

;)  Never owned one either, but when I was a kid, the best deer hunter in our area used one in a .35 Rem...He killed abuck every year...at that time deer were quite scarce...he was one of the few hunters I knew that could stalk a whitetail buck and kill him in his bed...conditions were much different then..little posting, and much open ground to hunt...he used the first box of ammo to kill 12 bucks in 12 years ...said he fired the last few at target then bought a new box...He also was the first man to own and shoot a .300 H & H in our area...he did not own many guns those two rifles, and a bunch of hand guns....but he was one of the best two whitetail hunters I have ever known...

I have a mod. 14-35 Rem. that I traded an old Bushnell range finder for. So far I've taken 3 Blacktail bucks with it, useing Rem.150gr. PSP.CL. Loaded up some Sierra 200gr. RN. with 36.5gr. of IMR 3031. There has been some report of more bear & wolf sign in our deer area so hopefully I will get a good chance to try out the new load this fall.

Way in the past I heard some nasty talk about those 150 gr SP not expanding. How did they work for you?

the old 141s were discontinued because they were all hand fitted and i was just to expensive. Lots more profit in  a rattle trap  like a 760. The were good old guns. I had a couple myself in the past and should have held on to at least one of them.

All 3 bucks were shot witn in 100yd., 2 were through the heart & lungs and were pass through, the third was in the shoulder and was recovered in the off side, and nicely mushroomed.

yep i try to get at least one of my pump 35's in the woods every year.  my favorite is the 14r carbine.  i also have a 141r carbine in 32 rem that is slick as heck.  its suprising what a difference the 18" barrel makes over the 24"  totally different feeling guns.

and for the 35's i use 200g corelokts exclusively.  lesson learned from my dad.
