xbolt in 25-06 ?
« on: June 15, 2011, 04:41:33 PM »
anyone got any real time with one?

got one coming for T&E and may hunt with one this season if I can get it to shoot well

I used a Micro Hunter 308 last year on a youth build project and it was a nice little rifle.

I have a thing for old Sakos for deer hunting but all the new ones have a 22.5" barrel and I just prefer a 24 on a 25-06

Haven't owned a 25-06 personally, grew up shooting one that was dad's but he up and sold it to someone about 10 years ago!

It was just a killing machine, if I could see it, pull the trigger, go pick up deer..

They are priced right should I decide to keep the Browning, so, that is certainly appealing..

The other one that gets my attention is a Cooper which I may get if I don't fall in love with the X bolt

I have handled them and they feel good, are light, decent trigger, not stellar, but functional.
So, the question becomes do they shoot?

I already have some Black Hills 100g TSX and will get some factory loaded Barnes 100g TTSX and of course I handload.

Sighted 2.5 at 100 it's point blank out to 300 and hold to the top of the back out to 400 or so.

I have plenty of other options to hunt with but I am anxious to try a a 25-06 again and hope the Browning shoots well.

I know you have to tinker to see what a particular gun likes of course.  Just looking for feedback from people that own one.

thanks

Ive shot a A-Bolt 25-06 for about 16 years. Most accurate rifle I own. I do not own an X-bolt yet, but if its close to my A-bolt you wont be disappointed. Mine has always preferred Win ammo, never shot Rem or Fed very wellwith 120 gr bullets. Ive got a handload for it too with 100 gr Hornadys that shoot well too. Good luck. I dont think youll have any problems. Tell us what you think about it.

I have an A-Bolt in 280.  After about 15 years of ownership, it has never had to be resighted and still shoots great.  I have lots of other rifles but none have held their point of impact any better than the A-Bolt.  Scope is a Leupold 3.5X10X50.  I have never had to touch the scope in 15 years and it still prints very tight goups at +1.5" at 100 yards.
The 25-06 is a very efficient cartridge.  They are inherrently accurat in my opinion.  Mine shoots 100 grain bullets just slightly better than 117-120, but the heavier bullets are far superior on whitetails (in my opinion).  I do not think you will be dissapointed in this caliber in an X-bolt.

Another A-bolt in .25-06 owner!

+1 for the .25-06!

+1 for the A-Bolt!  I don't know about the X-Bolt but I sure do like the Boss system and that's why I went with Browning ........... otherwise it would be a Savage or a Remington 700.

I am running handloads, 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, Sierra 100 gr. Game Kings, Hornady 75 gr. V-max ......... they all run .6 to .7 @ 100 yds. for three shots and pretty much at full throttle!!!

I have never seen anything like it ........... it's a caliber that kicks tail and takes names!!!

This rifle shoots it's worst load better than the rifle's best load I traded for it.  Count me happy!
