Like CW said, muzzle blast will be an issue, especially if you hunt from an enclosed stand or blind.
I have an 8mm Mauser that was cut down to 18" (it's 16.5" now!). I was letting my son and his friends shoot it one day. We were a little close to the house, and after one shot I heard something hit the floor inside. When I investigated I found some of my wife's junk (SORRY, DEAR!) had fallen off a shelf. The muzzle blast had pounded the wall so hard it shook those things down, AND cracked the window. Probably 7-8 years ago and I still haven't heard the last of it!
I love my .45-70 BC, but my granddaughter's .357 max Trapper is threatening to take 1st place from it. Short Handi's are just handy!
