Encore Buttstock options for women/youth??
« on: July 06, 2011, 07:54:31 PM »
I have owned an Encore for over 10 years, and I love it.  My daughter age 8 is getting into shooting.  She has mastered her 22LR, and I want her first deer rifle to be an Encore.  I know that TC makes a walnut youth buttstock, but I wondered if anyone has seen a synthetic, or has altered one to fit that purpose.  If this doesn't work out, I will be buying her a Contender carbine, but I'd like to get another encore.  Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

I got my son a G2 for his 10th birthday.  He does extremely well with the rifle from the bench, however I know we'll be working on squirrels in no time.  I think for him the stock will be a bit long.  My plan is to cut the stock down to just behind the rear sling swivel.  Then, I want to try making a wooden plug to fit the hollow composite stock and epoxy that in place.  That'll give me plenty of area to work with to mount another recoil pad that I'll have to grind to fit.  Another idea that I saw for recoil pads when I was at my local range was a standard "flip-flop".  The guy bought a pair of flip-flops and had plenty of recoil absorbing material to cut from.

When I end up making my shortened stock I'll be sure to post a topic of the processs.

I haven't cut any TC stocks, but quite a few have a rib on the top and bottom of the stock that gives plenty of "meat" to screw a pad to.  You can find out by removing the recoil pad from one and taking a look.  You may be able to shorten the stock without gluing anything into it.

I took an T/C Encore 13 1/2" LOP adult synthetic stock and cut off just behind the rear sling swivel. I then stuffed the cavity with plastic Wal-mart bags and installed a small slip-on Limbsaver recoil pad. This made an easy and inexpensive 12 1/2" LOP youth stock for my 12 yr old daughter.
