Atlantic coast fishing license
« on: June 19, 2011, 04:17:48 PM »
I saw that surf fisherman on Assateaque Island State Park in Maryland are required to have a license but on the National Sea Shore in Virginia, according to the Chincoteaque web site, coastal fishing is still free. Can anyone provide some details on this? I never heard of a license for fishing in coastal waters. I guess the money goes back into cleaning up the planet, as opposed to cleaning up the state's lakes, rivers and streams. ::) ::) ::) ::) Maryland politicians are well dressed thieves.

I had to buy my first saltwater license this year. I live in NH but they have a reciprocity agreement with Maine and Mass. I went striper fishing in Maine today but didn't catch anything.

According to my license agent he said that the states had to start a saltwater license program or else the feds were going to start charging for saltwater licenses. That doesn't jive with why fishing is still free at the federal site in Virginia that you mentioned, though.

Here is a link to the National Wildlife Refuge and it clearly states that no saltwater license is required.

NC started charging for salt water fishing about 5 years ago...Thankfully I was grandfathered in as I bought my Lifetime Sportsman License in '83...

I view it as another tax, so tourist get hit when they come down here to fish the piers...

I have found that NOAA has a national saltwater angler registry. I guess I'm finished surf fishing. I'll just bow out while remembering the good old days.
