Does anybody make?
« on: August 07, 2011, 02:31:07 PM »
Semi-finished WALNUT forends for the G2 Contender Carbine?  I'd like one with the barrel channel cut, the rear end inletted, the mounting screw holes drilled and the outside unfinished.  I have an MGM .22 WRM barrel that is 17" long for backpacking purposes and find the factory forend just too long.  I want to keep it for longer, heavier barrels, but need a slimmer, shorter one for the backpack.  I've had zero luck finding a beat up G2 Carbine forend to whittle down and don't want to ruin a new one.

Does anybody offer something like this?

Thanks in advance for any clues!

Try gunstocksinc.com

They have not been taking orders for T/C stocks for about a year.  It looks like they are now, but it says to expect a 30 day leadtime.

I have bought a couple from them and like them.

Yep, www.gunstocksinc.com

They're also one of the sponsers on GBO.  You might as well get you a matched stock and forearm, the prices are great!  A couple of afternoons of sanding, then a little tongue oil.....

You'll need to sand out the barrel channel to fit whatever barrel you've got.  They come with the "tapered" channel that is slightly undersized so that you can finish it or open it up to fit the bull barrel.

Those long forearms do look out of place on a short barrel, good idea.

My first thought, to make it simple, was to just reshape a factory forearm - used or new. Doesn't look like too much difference in cost and the factory forearm is always available.
Keep your plow share and your sword - know how and when to use them.

Antietamgw, if I could find a used forend I'd reshape it.  But so far, in spite of a number of WTBs on various sites, no luck.  I hate whittling on a new part; rather start with a semi-finished.  I'll look at the site mentioned above, and give them a call if I like what I see.
