Remington .22 Hornet ammo
« on: June 15, 2011, 06:26:43 AM »
I was gifted 100 rounds of Remington 45gr hp ammo. I am shooting an old topper barrel on a SB1 frame and am loading moderate loads of Lil' Gun at the moment. Is there a known pressure of the factory ammo comapered to Lil' Gun loads?  Is is accepted that this is safe ammo for the old topper models?    .DT

Yes factory ammo is expected to be safe for all guns in good working order.  The best example of this is the 45-70.  Factory ammo loaded to SAAMI spec.s is "soft" enough to be safe in the 1873 trap door Springfield rifles.  It is custom loaded ammo that is not SAAMI compliant that you must be on the look out for.

Dont read so much into the SB1vs SB2 talk on here.

As stated, factory ammo is safe in any firearm in good condition original chambered for that ( any origionally chambered cartridge) cartridge.

The SB1 frame is just fine for about any sane loading you could find or reload for the little 22 Hornet. I wouldn't go so far as to say you cannot blow it up.... But damn close.
