Anybody using subsonics for woodchucks ?
« on: March 31, 2011, 01:15:51 PM »
I used some last year, and it appeared that within 75 yards they were at least as effective as the high velocities.
Been considering either the CCI 40 gr hollowpoints or the Winchester 40 gr hollowpoints, for 'close-in' situations.  Those two are very hard to find around here.  All I can find off the shelf are Remingtons..and they are dirty and "iffy" in consistancy (IMO).
If you have tried any of them, what's your experience ?

I prefer to shoot Groundhogs up close and personal. I have always used PMC subsonics, and they work great. I bought several boxes and I am now told that they quit making them. Of all the 22lr rounds that I have used, Winchester Power Points kill them the best, bar non. I have several boxes of Aquila Super Maxes that I will try this year, CCI Stingers shot well in one of my rifles, but never worked well for me, go figure? Try the Power Points, I have never seen a 22 rifle that did not shoot them well.

They're pretty good for HV rounds.  I believe some of the PMC stuff was made by Aguila, you might try the Aguila subsonics  ...if you can find them...
