Forend Screws...
« on: January 06, 2004, 04:54:53 AM »
Hi folks, New here. Been looking in for a while. Went shooting yesterday and after a few rounds from my 45/70 I noticed my forend was loose, front screw was missing. Where can I find replacements for it? Thanks in advance.

Good luck with this one.  I searched on several shooting supply websites and can find none.  You might try your local gunsmith.  If you find some buy 1000 of them and start a website to sell them for $10.00 a piece.  Quick 10 grand.

TC sent me replacement screws N/C just last week. Got them in 3 days of request. Not bad customer service at all. I've also searched tons of fastener sites to see if I could located allen head screws 8-40 but to no avail. This thread size is dedicated strictly to gunsmithing and aviation. The aviation sites had same slotted screw that you can get from TC.

I didn't see reference to Contender or Encore.  Either way, T/C will send you new ones.  If its a Contender, you can get allen head 1" or 3/4"screws at Home Depot.  They will be in plastic bags of about 4.  You'll have to shorten them with a hacksaw and file but I like them better than the stock slotted.  Off the top of my head, they are 10-32.  If its Encore, they use 8-40 and no one makes them except T/C that I have found.

I am obviously able to read much faster than I can comprehend.  I apologize, I was thinking of the longer screws people were always looking for after floating the forend with washers.  My bad.

I don't have a standard barrel forearm, only the muzzleloader.  Are the screws 8-40 and what is the length needed?

I know both Virgin Valley and Bullberry have the hex head screws. 8x40

Bought from both. Both are a 20 minute drive from my house.
