45/70 price?
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:27:08 AM »
This is probably a stupid question but is a slightly used 45/70 with synthetic stock worth 199.99?  This thing i dont think was shot at all except for the test firing.  I like the idea of reloading cast in it, but here is the issue I purchased the 204 ruger bull barrell some time ago and never shot it so far.  I bought it due to an excellent price thinking of coyote hunting well that never happened and I think I would like a 223.    I will be heading back out to the same location of the 45/70 this afternoon would like somebodies input asap.

Yes, buy it, that's a great price for a like new Handi, specially a 45-70!  ;)

Post the 204 in the classifieds if you want to sell or trade it.

I picked it up last night got it for $193.00, I like the synthetic stock better than the wood on the 204.

I paid 100.00 more than that when I bought mine 5 years ago, but it was scoped.  I'd do it again this morning, it is one fine rifle.  Good luck with yours.  Shoot it and learn it.  Out over 150 yards, it's not a point-blank rifle.  When you learn the rainbow, you can hit almost anything you can see.  I'd get rid of my dogs and wife before I gave that rifle up......not that I like it or anything. ::) ::) ::)

No, Brent she didn't burn the toast.  In fact we had venison backstrap marinated in wine, soy,
Worchestshire, garlic and ginger cooked on the grill...just pink inside.  It was terrible...had to fight the dogs to keep them off it. I hate being poor and having to eat like that ;D ;D ;D

I was surprized to get the seven bucks off but its been there 6 weeks and no one bought the rifle so they knocked of the extra couple bucks yes need to buy dies, brass, and a cast bullet mold.  Speaking of that what mold is a good starter I noticed the lees are all non gas check?

Mine likes both of the Lee 340 and 405HB plain base bullets cast of air cooled wheel weight alloy.

It was 193 before tax, thats still a great deal.  Might need to buy both lee molds now if its plain base how fast can you send them down range, and can you add gas checks to them.  The reason I ask this gun will be used for black bear hunting.

See gas-checking PB bullets in the FAQs, lots of info in the FAQs if you spend the time reading.  ;)
