Win. 94 Trapper in 44 mag. want advice.
« on: April 06, 2011, 06:18:14 PM »
I bought a Centennial 94 trapper in 44 mag today. It is in good condition. I took it apart and cleaned it good as it was dirty and grimey.
It has a rebounding hammer and I do not like it. Is there a different mainspring strut that I can just drop in so it won't be a rebounding hammer?  I really hate to alter the original strut.

Thanks, John

Here's the photo tutorial, from the leverguns.com forum:  http://onesticky.levergunscommunity.org/how_to/rebounding_hammer_conversion.html.

Hey that is great! Thanks.
Where do I get these parts?
I know about other guns but this is the first Winchester I have had in over 30 years.

(google) Numrich Arms or Bob's Gun Shop, for just two parts vendors.

Well most of the parts are sold out. So the best I can do is hope to find someone who is parting out a 94.  Know anyone who is?

Well, if someone does and wants to give you the parts they can post it here.  If they want to sell the parts it has to go to the classifieds.

Thanks for the help here. I got my parts. I ran across a 94 with the regular hammer, so I bought the whole gun. I ended up just switching out the lower tangs and presto! I had my non rebounding hammer on my trapper. I did some shooting with it the other day and was impressed. So I worked things over and this is the group I ended up with tonight with the Win. white box 240 gr ammo. Here is pic of my trapper with the new hammer and the target. I am excited as my old eyes normally can't do this well at 50 yards  with open sights.
