rust inside barrel

Looking at an older rifle that is in pretty good condition except that there is a little rust inside the grooves in the barrel. It isn't pitted, alost looks like copper fouling.
What is the best way to remove rust from inside a barrel?
Don't want to replace the barrel.

Not a gunsmith but I would start with oiled patches, then go to a bronze brush if necessary, before trying anything else. I suppose Flitz or JB could be used on any remaining light rust.

A bronze bristle brush and PBBlaster or WD40 should help. If it's really bad a bit of steel wool (0000) on a brush (worn out) then pushed back and forth will clean and polish quite well. Oil is ok to use on the steel wool and is a good idea.. You want the steel wool to fill the bore so that it'll get into the grooves also.. DO NOT spin the steel wool jag with a drill!!! and never use coarser than 000 inside a bore..and 000 only if the rust is truly bad..
