Why headshots are mandatory with the 17 hm2---Warning, Graphic
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:59:00 PM »
This squirrel was shot inside of 50 yards and the results speak for themselves.
The 17 hm2 is devastating. Don't get me wrong saying this but I have all but retired
my .22 Lr's for hunting. I do not really put them in the same class anymore.
I have had the same results on crow out to about 100 yards. They don't
hardly even flutter. Flat shooting and hard hitting little cartridge.
Have to admit though, cleaning a squirrel shot with a .22. lr. does not
make me as  :o

Thats about what my 17HMR does up to 100 yards shooting TNT hollow points.  Their heads are left with a big crater where their brains used to be.  I went back to my 22LR because every now and then I would miss and hit the body and would have to throw half the squirrel away.

My fatherinlaw wouldn't have liked you! He liked squirrel brains too well. He'd raise mortal thunder everytime one of us blew the head off a squirrel.

Good shooting!

Good Lord that is a nasty little round. It'd be a mess cleaning those little fellas unless you lobbed his head off first I imagine.
