Difference in scope rails
« on: March 08, 2011, 11:29:41 AM »
I have  some scope rails that has two slots and some that have quite a few.
I think they are factory installed did they make a change?
Or who makes a base with more than two slots I have a scope on a 44 mag barrel I need to move farther back.

Thanks Hank

All scope rails are shown in the FAQs including pics of most.

Well just to add a few questions too this while it's on top,,

Why do guys want different scope rails?
Whats wrong with the factory ones?
What's better with aftermarket ones?

Now I realize the factory aluminum scope rail is better served by removing the screws, cleaning out their junk locktight stuff, bedding a little better and resetting. But beyond that (just being sure it fit's well) what is the advantage of the fancy different rails?

I haven't really found anything problematic with my current (factory rail) set-up. Do I need to spend more money to improve my accuracy?
found elsewhere

There is so much info on FAQs that I need to get in the habit of looking there first

Thanks to GB for all that info

I just need a base with more adjustment to move the scope farther back .The eye relief on this scope makes it pull up a it unnatural

Thanks Tim

There are several rails that have the same rear slot position as the factory rail, the Leupold is a good one, a little shorter than the factory rail tho, but not as short as the Numrich rail. I just ordered 5 Leupold rails for less than $35 shipped from Optics Planet, $7 each shipped is pretty good, and unlike the Weaver #82 that puts the rear ring an inch further forward, they make mounting a scope on a Handi easier, that can make a lot of difference in scope positioning to avoid the hammer.  ;)
