45 LC Classic Carbine
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:52:14 AM »
I just got a Classic Carbine in 45 Long Colt. It is a beauty. I hope it shoots as good as it looks. There are advantages to living where I do. i ordered it from CDNN in the morning and picked it up at my FFL the same afternoon....without the shipping charge!. That meant only $248 including tax plus a $20 transfer fee for the FFL. Now to get some ammo.

I like mine a lot.  It shoots pretty good with smokeless Cowboy ammo.  All they had at the time.
Tried to shoot black powder rounds from it today at 100 yards it was all over the place some sequential shots were a good 18 inches away from the previous.

Will need to spend some quality range time developing loads it likes.  The cowboy stuff grouped about 2 inches at 100.

I too scored the CDNN deal.  They hit me for either 9 or 15 for shipping, not bad.

Guys, I got one too. I have been accessorizing mine. I got the .454 Casull reamer through Tim. Cabela's had the Kick Killer lace-up, slip-on, leather butt pad. To MidwayUSA for a Marbles Bullseye Peep sight replacement and barrel band/stud and sling swivels. I made my sling from a 1" soft leather rein. Sportsman's Guide had the MOLLE tan military shotgun scabbord and an 8"x8" ammo pouch that got attached. Something to do during the snow, I guess. I felt that I saved enough with CDNN to do some tricking out. Life is good.

Oldfort - Have the same butt pad on mine and want to install the same sling swivel arrangement. Also hope to get a nice peep for it. Like the Skinner but think it's a little overpriced. Will probably end up with the Williams WGRS.

If you think that the Skinner stuff is overpriced just take a picture of it down to any machine shop in your area and ask them how much they would charge to make you one like it!
Quality costs a little more, but in this case, not that much more; and a guarrantee that cannot be beat.

+1 on the Skinner sight!

You get what you pay for and that's a quality machined, (not aluminum) sight that looks like it belongs on the rifle and not just an add on.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Tom

I can't help you with the Skinner sights. The Marbles Bullseye is a ghost ring type sight that replaces the existing dovetail sight. Get the long model. I have not shot mine yet to see if the vertical height is correct. When I find out, I may go with the Marbles Green Fiber Optic front sight. The Marbles rear sight was $16 and the front is $14 from MidwayUSA.

gcrank1 - Of course a machinist would charge a lot to make ONE. Mass production should reflect a lower cost for some as simplistic as these sights. Compared to other offerings in the sight business I still think they are too high. A shame though as they are nice looking on the Handis.
