375 JDJ vs.338 in Encore Handgun
« on: December 16, 2003, 02:09:32 PM »
I am looking at getting another barrel for my Encore Hangun.
The 308 is fun, but I would like to throw some more lead and still keep an effective range of 200 yards, maybe a bit more.
I have rifle ballistics on the 338 but have been unable to find ballistics on the 375 JDJ.
Does anyone have these numbers from an Encore pistol?
Also, according to SSK, the factory Hornady 375JDJ will be available through TC maybe around the end of January.  Is anyone else handling a factory load besides them?

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

I shoot a 375JDJ in the Contender and it gets 2200fps+ with the Hornady 220FP. Are you looking at one of the 338 wildcats or the Winmag. I shoot a 338Winmag out of a 15" Encore with a brake and love it. I'm shooting 180gr Nosler BT at 2840fps. Groups into an inch or less when I do my part. Another option might be to have your 308 rechambered. I've got a 300Winmag that was a rechamber from a 308. I'm shooting 150gr Winchester ST at 2900fps+ and 165gr Hornady SST at 2800fps. There are 3 of us that shoot the rechambered 308s so far they have accounted for 3 deer this season.

RWG,

I want to keep the 308 as is.  I enjoy shooting it, and it doubles for deer and Yotes.
I guess I was looking for comparison to the 338 Win Mag.
But as I stated in another post, I read on another site, a review of the 376 Steyr in the Encore Pistol.
It appears to be flatter shooting than the 375 JDJ, but I still haven't seen actual ballistics on any of them.

Try the .375-06JDJ for the Encore----for more power than .375JDJ or .376 Steyr.
