Coyote in Cat Sets

Picked this guy up yesterday. I can't keep the coyote out of my cat sets. Most of the time they shy away but not this season notice the cotton balls hanging over set.

i catch them in my fox sets i been told more than once that a coyote dont like guiding but i guid the fox tight to the trap.

Yup, I'm not going to complain but pinecone's and rocks all around the trap. Cotton balls hanging everywhere all I can do is smile.

I would rather overguide than to not guide enough. Overguiding might cause an occasional coyote to back off but for the ones that do commit the near misses are reduced 90%, well more than compensating for an occasional avoidance by a wary oldtimer.

Asa you hit the nail right on the head!  If one finds he is dealing with a wary yote he can adjust his or her methods to accomodate the situation and type of trap set.

Asa you are very right. What surprised me the most is and I guess my point would be. Near most of my cat sets are are more tradional canine sets dirthole and flat sets pee-posts and such and I'm catching them in flat out CAT sets. I mean loud sets heavy guided with all the bells and whistles which is something I would never do if I were setting for a coyote.

I must have different coyotes- i'd 100% rather "under" guide than OVER guide to consistently take coyotes.  the set itself, should be 99% of your guiding.

granted, over and under are subjective words- but too much blocking will indeed spook coyotes in my opinion.

there are exceptions- such as tree, rock littered landscapes- in those areas, if cows are present (to avoid cows), one can indeed block in sets, but in those conditions, they don't appear to be blocked in.

people catch coyotes every year in blocked in or even bare sets- but the exception isn't the rule.
