H&R Shikari Model 155 .45-70 Carbine
« on: January 04, 2011, 01:08:18 PM »
Just recently acquired a H&R Shikari Model 155 .45-70 Carbine, it is in brand new condition, barrel is a mirror. I saw some posts from previous years about them. Any recommended sights to add or any other items. What is the best ammo to shoot?

Ammo would be any load that is for the Springfield 1873 Trap Door in Black Powder or Smokless.

Just remember Newtons law of Motion. ;) That is a very light Rifle. :o

I shoot 405 gr cast lead in mine, or the Hornady 300 gr HP.  TRAPDOOR level loads only.  The old shikari had a silver soldered barrel lug, and a cast frame.  Ruger level loads may just turn it into a hand grenade.  I love mine, I have killed 7 or 8 deer with it over the years.  Shoots great, and doesn't pound your shoulder with the milder loads.
