Weaver Base for Encore
« on: December 18, 2003, 05:20:45 PM »
Weaver lists their base as #410 for the Encore.  The new one I have is too long and there is air underneath where the barrel contour slopes down from the chamber side of the barrel.  I have a base that came with the barrel that needs replacing and it is about 1" shorter than the new base I purchased.  Anybody know what that deal is?  I was going to guess and say the previous owner cut it off, but the slots are different between the two also.  They both have the same 410 number on them.

The funny thing about the whole situation is that I have a 92a Contender base that has the same hole configuration that the Encore bases have and it fits pretty good.  The only difference is that it is about 1/16 less wide than the base that Weaver says goes with the Encore.  The contour of the Contender base matches the Encore barrel and the Encore base.  Ayone have any experience switching bases around?

The contours are not the same. The radius of the contender mount is smaller than the Encore. What you see is normal. The base does hang over the taper portion of the barrel. My guess is that the shorter mount you have has been cut off. You can use a Contender mount on an Encore and get away with it as long as its not too much of a kicker. The hole pattern is the same. Don't use an Encore mount on a Contender though because the radius is larger and the mount will want to roll from side to side. The weaver mount is pretty inexpensive, you would really be better off getting the correct mount.  KN

Thanks for the input.  I do have a #410 brand new base here at the house.  I will use it and not worry about the overhang.  Thanks for the quick reply.
