Don't see a Ammo forum so I'll ask here.

Sorry if I'm  mis-posting but have a ammo question for H&R .223

Going to pick up a .223 in a couple days and although I will be reloading for it, I was at a local big box store and they had the Winchester USA 45gr Hollow Point Varmint ammo in the white box for $17.99 a box on clearance. There was 40 rounds per box. Is this decent enough ammo for groundhogs and coyote? The regular price was $23.99.

Those seem to be one recomended by several. They did not shoot well from my 1-12, perhaps they's better in a 1-9

You will just have to see how the handi will shoot 40 grs The new ones are 1-9 twist so they can shoot the heavier bullets 60+ grainers. If it is a 1-14 twist then it should shoot them just fine. But until you try some you won't know. They some times can be pretty pickey

Those 45 grain WW White Box .223's were and are known as the gold standard of Handi .223's. If I had found them for that price they would be mine. I (and others here as well) have shot honest 3 and 5 shot 100 yard groups well under .5 MOA with that ammo, myself in my 1/12 twist .223 Handi. I say buy all you can find at that price....<><....:)

The Win White Box 45gr JHP value pack ammo shoots so good in my 1:12" 223 Ultra Varmint that I've never handloaded for it, many here have tried to duplicate it with their handloads tho. There are literally hundreds of kudos posted on it here as well as all over the net as being one of the best factory rounds available, and inexpensive compared to other factory loads.  ;)

Is there more than one kind of WWB ?
The ones I have are 45 JHP Varment High Velocity 3600fps,,
I guess I could try'm again, I have the 22" bull barrel and these where the first I tried and wasn't impressed, I just put'm on the shelf.
I started loading shortly after that and never looked back. Maybe my tuning has helped, Maybe my shooting has improved.
If memory serves right I DID have a bum scope that I replaced, but I think that was another gun,,?  ???  ::) Weather is still in the single digits and not fun for range time, but I'll try those bullets again. So many DO say they shoot well and I can't imagine MY rifle to be THAT much different from the others.
Besides, I've been meaning too, I could use the brass, just cleaned all the barrels and need to do some fouling. ;)
I'll give'm a fair try.

I've only seen it in two packages, 40 round that Walmart carries and the 50 round loose pack. Mine didn't start shooting real good until I put about 80 rounds down range and that was after I flitzed the bore.

Yes, these are the ones I saw last night. Sounds like I should go get them.

I would buy them all. They may shoot great, if not they would be good to break in the bore and get good brass to reload. That's getting close to what they sold for before the ammo price went nuts.

What big box store was it so I can keep an eye out at mine ;) Thanks

i was at a big gun store yesterday and seen 223 bulk military fmj for $5.00 for 20  or $100 for 1000
then i looked for a handi in 223 and it was $389.00  :o  is that why the ammo is so cheep?
