Scope question
« on: December 17, 2010, 08:17:36 AM »
Need a short scope.  Going on a 30-30 AI Handi, and it's important for me in this case that the mount NOT extend beyond the chamber swell of the barrel breech end (will use a shortened Picatinny type rail).  I THINK I need ranging lines or mildots for rapid target evaluation.

If I DON'T really need the ranging reticle there are alot of scope options.

Burris 2-7 seems like it won't adjust back and forth enough to allow short mount length and maintain eye relief, but it has the ranging lines reticle.  Burris and Nikon have a 1-4x20 that looks good, as does the Leupold VX2&# but they are circle type , plex or German reticles and more expensive.

I need good optics and I'm not aware of many 'short' scopes available with ranging lines or mildots below the crosshairs in this short configuration.  BUT, if I DON'T really need the ranging reticle....

Any guidance welcomed...

I think the Redfield 2-7x33 has one ranging dot (below the circle plex) along with the small circle plex that the bottom intersection could be used as a ranging point.  Don't know how long it is, don't have one yet ;D  But Christmas is coming ;)

Unsure of price, but how about a Pentax?? Unsure on price, but it may be no better then the upper Nikon's and Leupold for cost.
The lightseeker SL is a Short and Lite little scope with a ranging reticule.

I have a couple Gameseekers and there has been a couple posts lately about them. I think a FIXED POWER is an OK scope for the $$. Herd and seen bad things from the variables. But none are very short. I thought of them because of the reticule.
