Does anyone know the throat depth for the 700 in 8x57? I loaded some 180gr Nosler ballistic tips to the OAL found in my guide .  it says the OAL should be 3.25".
When I loaded to these specs, the round would not chamber. I brought the OAL down to 3.125" and it chambered fine.

Throat depths vary widely.  Measure your rifle and work accordingly.

Aardvark,
I held one of those classics a couple of weeks ago. I reload for my son's Yugo M-48 which is accurate with the military sights. I am thinking about picking up the Remington Classic for 558.00

How is the trigger?           What do ya have for a scope and how does it shoot?   The rifle I saw was a dandy.

The gun is really a good choice for me. I got mine for $559 and I mounted a BSA 3x9 Deerhunter scope on Leupold mount and rings.
I read a lot about stiff triggers and all the safety issues with Remington but on this particular rifle, the pull is firm, not hard and the break is clean with only the very slightest hint of creep. I like it just fine and I don't think I will be making any adjustments to it.
It shoots as you would expect a 700 to shoot , very straight and solid.
I like the 8x57 round better than any other round. I don't care for magnums at all as I hunt in South Texas and will never need to make a shot over 300 yds.
This round kicks like a magnum though, I must say. Then again, I load my own ammo and like to load the 8mm pretty hot.
The gun itself weighs just over 7lbs. and is a nice dark walnut stock with nice checkering.
If you like the 8x57 commercial rounds available by Remington, you will not experience the recoil that I do, as they load thiers pretty light. I would not use their ammo for anything over 200yds.
If you plan to load your own, you will find that the 8mm holds as much powder as an 06 and you can load any variety of projectiles from 125gr to 220gr.
I get around 2700fps with 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tips...

I found that the seating depth of 3.125 worked very well at the range today. As only some of the longer spire points will be long enough to achieve that length, I feel confident that all will go well. Some of the round nose bullets don't even come close to that but still seem to be just as accurate...

That sporter must have a shorter throat but I'm also pretty sure most mil surps have long ones, I load the 220 gr SGKs out to 1.193 and they dont touch  the lands. Can' go any farther thou cuase the mag well won't hold them. They shoot very well by the way, 47.5grs of H4895 CCI primer.. right at 2500fps. 8)
